story of Pucky and Sweetie! (4)

December 24, 2000.
I didn't update the site for a while, because nothing did happen. I also felt a bit disappointed, because Sweetie is breeding and breeding and nothing hatched. I am aware of the fact that Pucky (agapornis roseicollis) and Sweetie (agapornis personata) are two different kind of lovebirds and that you normally don't breed these species, but they just fell in love and I let them being in love.....gave them a nest box etc. So it started. This is the second nest and till today nothing hatched again. People say that these babies are too weak to come out of the egg. Each time a day I give Sweetie a bath because that's also good for the eggs. Otherwise it could be too dry to hatch.Anyway.....TODAY an egg has hatched!! I am so excited about it, but you can image that!! I'm so happy with Sweetie too, because now she has her little baby. I really hope that baby will survive, it just has too survive!!
The first pics of the baby. Note: the pics are not sharp. It's very difficult to get them sharp, I think because it's just too little and also I have to take pics with the flash-light too so I can't come to close:

Everything goes perfect. The little baby is still alive and kicking!! Now you can see that he's properly fed. Sweetie is a great mom and Pucky is a great dad!December 26, 2000:
Wow, this afternoon another egg hatched!! I didn't expect that at all. At first I thought that this nest would not hatch either, the same as the first one, but I was wrong! This afternoon, I just had planned to take some pictures of the first baby, Sammy ( a friend of mine wants this baby badly and she already gave him a name, Sammy!) and when I opened the nest box I suddenly saw the second baby!!!What a great Christmas this year! Here some new pictures:

Here I am again...gosh....still everything goes terrific. Still only two babies, but if another egg will hatch, that will be tomorrow!! So when I come home from work I immediately go right to the nest box. I always nock on it, so Sweetie knows that I will open it. She is so easy to handle, really. It's just miraculous!!! She doesn't bite me for defending her little babies...no...she trusts me, I guess. Lucky me!! Here some new pics...© Updated at 14-11-02 00:11 +0100 /
