Name: Pucky
Age: One year old
Gender: Female
Breed: Lovebird
Home: The Netherlands

She is so special because she loves me so much and always gives me seeds! My lovebird Pucky is one year old since June 1999. First when I got her (I now know she is a female bird) she bit me very hard, but every day I took her out of the cage with my (bare!) hands and soon she started to become a bit tame. Now she is so tame that she almost is in love with me as a lovebird, ha ha!! She always (when I come near) wants to give me seeds, she loves to sit on my shoulder when I am working at my computer, she loves to sit on my scanner, monitor, play with the all the flexes around my PC. When she is out of her cage, she flies to me, wherever I go. If I go to my bathroom, she comes to me to the bathroom etc. I have to be very careful with her, because of windows and doors. I know that people in America get their bird's wings clipped but here in Holland this isn't usual at all. But I have had birds now for about fifteen years and never lost a bird because of their ability to fly!

Name: Rakker
Age: Four years old
Gender: Male
Breed: Budgie
Home: The Netherlands

I love him so much because he talks a lot. My budgie Rakker is about four years old. I got him directly out of a nestbox and so he became very tame. Soon I heard that he could talk and now he talks whole sentences!! He always likes to sit on my shoulder, hates bells which could ring, loves millet, mirrors and especially my lovebird. Every day he comes out of his cage to play with me and my lovebird Pucky. Sometimes he gives Pucky seed, yes!! That's so cute to see.

He loves to eat apples... if he is eating it, I can clean the whole cage, my window, my blinds etc., LOL! But it's okay... it is healthy to give your bird fruit... he also eats cucumber, so he's a healthy baby.

When Pucky came home Rakker was immediately curious about that new bird. At first he was a bit jealous but after a while, when he saw that I still was paying as much as attention to him as to her he adjusted. Rakker is always very on his own, if you know what I mean. At this moment I do have a guest budgie but if there is another bird he always wants to play with it, he 's very enthusiastic!

Name: Mickey
Age: Four months old
Gender: Male
Breed: Senegal Parrot (poicephalus senegalus)
Home: The Netherlands

I got Mickey on July 28, 1999. He came from a Belgium breeder and was handfed, so I was very excited to get him! Before Mickey came home I read a lot about Senegal parrots and I knew they could be a little nippy and moody from time to time but on the other hand they are social birds. I also got a big parrot cage from a friend. After a few days Mickey was constantly putting his head through the cagebars!! I was so worried. After some time I bought a new cage for him with smaller bars. Now he is very happy in it and I'm not worried anymore! Mickey is the first bigger parrot I have. I only had budgies and lovebirds. At this moment I also have Rakker, the budgie, and Pucky, the lovebird. I love them very much. I have only had Mickey for a short time now, but I am totally in love with him. I take him out of the cage everyday and also together with my budgie and my lovebird. In the beginning Mickey and Pucky were "beak-fighting" a lot, but it goes much better now. Pucky has a strong character and she doesn't fly away for Mickey. It is so funny to see those two creatures sitting on my shoulders, trying to get the best place!

From the beginning Mickey was indeed nippy and I had to get used to that. I know that Senegal's love drama, so you must not react dramatically on this. It is difficult to find a good way dealing with that, but now it goes much better, especially when my other birds are in their cages again and he can sit a little longer with me, watching television. Than he is soooooo sweet, really. Those moments are so special to me, then I can preen his neck feathers, give him kisses on his beak, etc. And nowadays he seems to be getting less nippy. He is adjusting well. He loves to eat fruit with me and when I am eating my dinner he wants to eat with me too, but he cannot have everything! Only the healthy things for birds, of course!! I hope he will stay with me for a long long time!! It's lots of fun to have a Senegal parrot.

Name: Sweetie
Age: One and a half years old
Gender: Female
Breed: Blue masked lovebird
Home: The Netherlands

Sweetie is a very cute lovebird. When I got her (February 2000), she already was about one year old and then it is very difficult to tame a bird. In the beginning she bit me very hard, but now I can take her out of the cage with my (bare) hand and put her on my finger. Then I can give her some kisses on her breast and beak. Sweetie is very special, because for example she can make stitches with little ropes through the cage bars! That's her favorite hobby. She can be busy with that for hours. You can also play around with her, when she sits on her cage. For example once I put a half ball on her head, just like a bird who is working in a mine or something like that!! She sat so still that this (broken) ball was on her head for several minutes, LOL! she especially likes to play with my other lovebird, Pucky. Oh yes... she has an American Happy Hut and loves to sleep in it (they don't sell those happy huts in Holland). Anyway.... she always makes me smile with the things she does!
