Charlie & Piwi, in love again

Charlie and Piwi are in love again! I didn't want them to mate anymore, because Charlie is quite old now.. about 11 or 12 years. But she already laid 5 eggs before this nest, so I bought her a nest box again. The first egg was laid on October 25, the second on October 27 and the third and last one on October 29, 2003.

One of the eggs wasn't fertilized. On November the 17th the first baby was born. The second baby died in the shell.. I guess he was too weak to came out. I couldn't help the baby, because I was at work. In the beginning the one and only baby was troubling a lot..I sometimes took it out and gave it some formula; now Charlie is feeding him very good, lucky me! I work four days per week, so for me it isn't possible to hand feed.. and on the other hand, the baby was about 4 days old, so much too young to take it away from his parents.

Here some photo's from the beginning of Charlie and Piwi's nest till now.. as the baby is about 12 days old. Today I put on his band.

Are they in love or are they?? ROFLOL!! Click on the thumbnails to see the larger photo!
